Waiting for the washing .... and catching up on this blog.

It's 1am .... waiting for the washing machine to finish a load, it takes forever!!!  There are still people in the streets outside.  One shop - which appears to be a bottle shop / take-away food shop - is still open.  Small groups of people are sitting in doorways or walking around, buses are still running.  We usually see groups of people sitting around drinking beer from tallies at all times of the day and night.  With that much alcohol around, I've been surprised at that there's been no aggro or conflicts and no police presence.

Tonight I've just heard some yelling down in the street and some glass breaking.  Didn't amount to anything in the end, fortunately.  Shop is still open selling beer, and people and traffic are still moving around.

Tomorrow night we will be heading out to the airport about this time ... 2am.  Thinking we would have to pre-book a taxi as we wouldn't find any in the street.  Seems I was wrong.   Still plenty of chatter and movement in our street!!

About this apartment - Carlos Calvo 496.  Found and booked it over the internet  http://www.buenosaireshousing.com.ar/apartments_for_rent_2-3_bedroom/ccalvo.htm  and what a find it has been.  Firstly, it's in a really old area that we just love - such fabulous atmosphere.  We visited Recoletta today, a more up-market, trendy area.  Beautiful, but really lacks the character that an Telmo has - in my opinion.

Street views from our balcony - early morning

Our apartment has 2 balconies - one with blue canopy and one to the left

It's central - walking distance from the centre of town.

This apartment has sooo many antique features.  Building dates back to 1900 - 15ft ceilings at least.  It's spread over 3 floors - marble staircases, top deck terrace, balconies overlooking the street.  It's a gem.

Oops - forgot to take pictures before we gave it that 'lived-in' look.

It's 2am - washing is finished .... finally.  Shop is still open and several customers are sitting around outside.  Buses are still running, but I am going to bed!!  Goodnight.
